Mimi and her husband, Felix; her son, Tyler and her daughter, Chloe

Mimi is one of our Junior Worship teachers and is still continuously teaching in Combined Worship faithfully. I met her in my Fellowship and shortly after that she started to serve in Children Ministry. Let’s meet her and her family today!

Mimi:

Mimi, when did you join BAC and can you tell us more about yourself?

I was born and raised in Hong Kong. I immigrated to Canada with my family in 1986 and now I am married with 2 children, 1 boy and 1 girl. I work at TD as a Lead Customer Experience Associate, which means bank teller. I found BAC when I moved into the neighborhood in 2004 and my son was invited to join BAC's Awana. BAC has been my home church ever seen.

How did you start serving in Children Ministry?

There was a sermon about being part of the church family. Don't just come and take something away, come and see how you can give back to this family. God has blessed me with a few years of scout leader experiences. So I decided to use that leadership gift to serve His children in His House.

Can you share with us what is the greatest blessing and the biggest challenges in teaching kids in Junior Worship?

The greatest blessing is that children of Grade 1 to 3 have the purest heart and mind. These children's faith is simple and kind. They also have the greatest memory skill which can store the most bible verses. However, the biggest challenge is also their age; they tend to have shorter attention span. Keeping them interested on a topic and sitting still can sometimes be difficult.

Chloe, your daughter, and Tyler, you son, are also serving in Junior Worship. What is the benefit when you all serve in Children Ministry as a family?

The benefit of serving together as a family is that I can be part of their spiritual journey. After many years of observation, they have taken on some skills of teaching. Best of all, when I have to prepare crafts, I can show them the night before and they can help the kids the next day during lesson.

Why do you think Children Ministry is a vital part in BAC and in kids’ lives?

It's important because God said so....

Psalm 127:3

Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward

Deuteronom y 6:6;7

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it

Meet Tyler:

“I am a third year UBC student, studying biology. Jesus played a big part of my life, as I grew up in a Christian family and attended both Christian elementary and high schools. I believe I started serving in Children Ministry ever since grade 7, so about 8 years or so ago. I also served in ICON fellowship's CORE planning, and currently serve in the AWANA program as one of the assistant directors. I've been able to watch a lot of kids I've helped in the ministry grow up and also become a part of serving and it inspires me to continue helping and teach kids what I've been able to learn being at Church.”

Meet Chloe:

“I was born and raised in a Christian family. I have been baptized. I love Jesus!! I serve in Junior Worship and Awana. I also served in ages 4 & 5 and grade 3 Sunday school. In Junior Worship, their languages are often broken down so I find it easier to understand which gives me an opportunity to reinforce my basic/foundation.”
