May 31, 202 Jesus takes away our worries
Parents, do you want to know what the average Canadian child worries about? Check this out and you would be amazed/ surprised!
The following object lesson demonstrates how our hearts cannot be fully trusting the Lord and be full of worry at the same time. This is a good way to follow up our lesson this morning
Materials Needed: ·
- Cooking oil
- Water
- 3 clear containers ( 2 smaller and 1 larger)
- Food colouring
- Tape
- Sharpe marker
Object Lesson:
- Hold up the oil and pour some into one of the smaller clear containers. The oil represent worry, write a worry on a piece of tape and label the container.
- Ask your child what it means to worry?
- Pour some clear water into a second clear container, add some food colouring to it. The water represents trusting God.
- Ask your child what it means to trust God, and can we trust God and worry at the same time?
- Pour some of the oil and water into the third container at the same time. The oil and water will appear to mix at first but as you watch the two will slowly separate with the oil resting on top of the water
- This activity shows us that we cannot worry and trust God the same time, as the two do not mix.
Learning Point:
God wants us to trust in Him whenever we are tempted to worry because He cares for us. He is in control and knows about everything that has happened in the past, in present and what will happen in the future. God is more than worthy of our full trust.
Scripture Passages:
- Matthew 6: 25-34
- Philippians 4:6-7
- 1 Peter 5:7
Discussion Questions:
- What do you worry most about?
- Why does God not want us to worry?
- How do you usually do with your worries and stress?
- How can you lift up worries to God?
- How can you have an attitude of gratitude?
