You can make a difference
As we are recruiting adult leaders for Awana, I have invited a few leaders to share their thoughts and experience regarding their roles in Awana. Hope that can give you a better picture of leaders’ role and the impacts they made:
Winnia and Charles (2024 to present)
“Serving in BAC Awana is meaningful, fulfilling and a blessing to partake in God's kingdom!
Being adult leaders, our prescribed role is to teamwork with the Awana Commanders, Directors, leaders and leaders-in-training (LITs) to teach the Awana boys and girls and train them with the gospels of Christ to serve the Lord.
Deep from our hearts being Awana parents and past Awana Commanders, our responsibilities are not just only to help clubbers to complete their handbooks or keep the place safe during each meet; but also it is a golden opportunity to share or affirm the Gospel to the boys and girls while supporting and affirming LITs when we serve together.
My daughter and son each had once shared with us "mom and dad, I am thankful that you put me in Awana. I gained my confidence through earning each award/trophy and serving as an Awana leader. The Bible verses in my brain are those I memorized from Awana. The recited scriptures carry me through my bad times and render me to share happiness through my good times in life".
After serving in Awana for many years in my old church, we are really impressed with how enthusiastic our Awana leadership is in BAC. Despite the cultural challenges these days in keeping a disciplinary and fun children's club at church, we are proud to share with everyone that BAC's Awana Club continues to maintain its quality and services. Adult leaders like us also have the flexibility to serve in part time - only twice a month. It is a very thoughtful option for us to commit.
We have enjoyed serving in Awana since last September and would also like to encourage everyone, especially parents and young adults, to join so that we can experience the fulfilling journey with our children and kids in BAC together, as well as serving with other faithful servants as a team in Christ.
God is good and is so good. Remember 'Approved Workmen Are not Ashamed'.”
Ivan Pang ( Sep 2013 to June 2022 )
“As an Awana leader, one of my greatest joys has been walking alongside our LITs, helping them grow not only in leadership skills but also in their personal relationship with Christ. Over the past years, I’ve encouraged our LITs through regular check-ins, guiding them on how to help the kids learn about Jesus during club nights, and providing them with opportunities to lead. When LITs feel supported, they serve more passionately.
LITs often connect with kids in a unique and natural way, making them relatable. It's important to give them more opportunities to develop their leadership skills.
"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6)”

Back to Jun 2024, I joined the Awana Awards Ceremony to celebrate the achievements of students. It was a time not only recognized students’ growth in Bible knowledge and spiritual development, but also presented an honor to the leadership team who dedicated their time and effort to the Awana program. I saw an amazing picture on the stage - everyone was engaged and experienced the joy in God. At that moment, I felt excited and was thinking how could I be a part of the team. I prayed and God answered. A few days after, I received an invitation from Loran and she asked me to join the Awana program as Parent Leader. I knew that was God’s calling to serve in Awana.
Throughout the year, I appreciated an opportunity to be a Parent Leader in Awana. I support Leaders-in-Training (LITs) to develop their leadership skills and responsibilities, demonstrate a positive leadership behavior and setup a role model for LITs to follow. Apart from it, I am one of the members in T&T Boys Green Team. I encourage the boys to participate in games, focus on creating fun and build relationship with the teammates. I help the boys grow in their faith through Bible learning and memorization. When the boys came to me and memorized God’s Word, the fulfillments and blessings came directly from God’s grace and divine plan. The boys did a good job to memorize the Bible verses.
Last but not the least, I encourage you to join the leadership team to serve God’s Kingdom, encounter the great power and joyful in His presence.

Back in 2007, I felt a nudge when a promotion was presented in one of the Sunday services. When I started to serve in Awana, my son was 7 and my daughter was 3. God blesses me and my family through and through in all these years. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to “serve” in Awana, which often I feel like more of being blessed by the Lord, instead of "serving". In the beginning, I was very nervous as English was not my first language. I was worried that I may not be able to communicate well with other leaders and clubbers. All by God’s grace, the language did not become a barrier. On the other hand, through serving in Awana, I started reading Scriptures and Bible stories in English, which later I found very helpful to support my children’s spiritual growth as well as having conversations about Jesus with other English speaking people. Moreover, by helping children to recite Bible verses, also allows me to embed God’s words in my heart. Recently, I have worked with a first grader on memorizing Psalm 23, we took turns reciting verse by verse and completed the passage. I was happy for her, as well as for myself! When Jesus was tempted by the devil in the desert. He refused, stating that "man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
Here we are with BAC Awana, with a systemic Bible verses teaching and memorizing, we “serve” to support children to learn God’s words, and at the same time, we are blessed by the Lord Jesus Christ.
